3 places remote culture is being shaped right now...
👋 Welcome back to All Things Remote: your weekly shortcut to building lean, efficient remote teams without the chaos.
This week’s edition is about culture, not as a concept, but as an operating reality in remote teams. Because culture isn’t built in workshops, it’s built in how work actually happens, every day.
In today’s send:
✅ Why culture problems show up in execution first
✅ The behaviours that quietly shape remote culture
✅ What to fix in January before Q1 pressure hits
But first…
What’s shaping your team’s culture most right now? |

Culture is how work actually gets done
Let’s be blunt.
Culture is not your values document or your onboarding deck
Culture is the day-to-day experience your team has when they’re doing the work.
In remote teams, culture is shaped by things like:
how decisions really get made
how long it takes to get unblocked
what happens when someone makes a mistake
what gets followed up on, and what quietly disappears
Your team doesn’t “buy into” culture.
They observe it, then adapt their behaviour.
If decisions are slow, then people will stop taking initiative.
If expectations are unclear, people will play it safe.
If mistakes are punished, problems get hidden.
That is your culture.
Not what you intended.
Not what you wrote down.
What actually happens.
Remote teams just make this more visible because there’s no office noise to hide behind.
And this is where culture quietly breaks if you’re not careful…

The 3 places culture is being shaped right now
If culture feels “off” in your team, it’s usually showing up in one (or more) of these places. So, if you want to change culture, don’t start with values….
