✍️ Strengthen communication in your remote team

Strategies to build clarity, trust, and better collaboration

If you're a remote founder, COO, or team lead, you've probably come across a lot of advice about "remote team communication" that sounds good in theory but doesn’t work in practice.

From awkward Zoom socials to endless meetings, most of it misses the point.

Strong remote communication isn’t about more touchpoints or forced fun (which is never fun!).

It’s about creating the right systems that support clarity, connection, and collaboration…without draining your team’s time or energy.

And that’s exactly what we’ll unpack in this Deep Dive.

Clear communication starts with clarity of expectation

Most communication problems don’t come from tools. They come from a lack of shared expectations.

Here’s what that looks like:

  • Nobody knows how quickly they should respond to Slack

  • Updates are inconsistent or overly long

  • Everyone communicates differently

What to do instead:

  • Share communication guidelines on how (and when) you use each tool (Slack, email, Loom, Notion, etc)

  • Define response time norms (e.g. async = reply within 24h unless urgent)

  • Be explicit about when meetings are necessary, and when they’re not

Clarity reduces any confusion. Share this during team onboarding, and if there are changes, make sure it’s reshared (often!)

Build connection through small, consistent habits

You don’t need to be best friends with your team. But you do need to create moments of human connection.

And no, it doesn’t need to be a "virtual happy hour" with 12 people talking over each other.
